Alina Bercu was born in February 1990 in Campina, Romania. She started her first piano lessons at the age of 7 at the Arts School in her native town. She has settled with her family in Brasov in 1999 to study piano with Prof. Stela Dragulin from the Faculty of Music at the Transylvania University.
She began her academic studies with Prof. Grigory Gruzman (Weimar University of Music/ Germany) in 2006 and went on to study with Prof. Wolfgang Manz ( Nürnberg University of Music). Concurrently she studied chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main with Prof. Michael Sanderling and Prof. Angelika Merkle.
Alina Bercu has taken part in masterclasses and workshops with distinguished musicians, such as Lory Wallfisch, Rudolf Buchbinder, Leslie Howard, Robert Levin, Andras Schiff, Ana Chumachenco, Wen-Sinn Yang, Werner Bärtschi, Menahem Pressler and Karl-Heinz Kämmerling.
Among the numerous renowned concert halls throughout Europe, America and Asia, Alina has played in: Carnegie Hall – New York, Théâtre de Vevey, Tonhalle – Zürich, Prinzregententheater – München, Tonhalle – Düsseldorf, Musikhalle – Hamburg, Teo Otto Theater – Remscheid, Auditorium – Rome, Great Palace Hall – Bucharest and Romanian Atheneum. She has played with prestigious orchestras, such as: Wiener Philharmoniker, Orchestre de chambre Lausanne, Bremer Philharmoniker, Slovak Sinfonietta, “Mozart Orchester” – Hamburg, Limburg Symfonie Orkest, „George Enescu” Philharmonic – Bucharest, “Gulf Coast Symphony” – Mississippi / SUA, Bergische Symphoniker – Remscheid / Solingen and Orchester Gesellschaft – Zürich, under the baton of notable conductors, e. g. Misha Katz, John Wesley Strickler, Paolo Arrivabeni, Theo Wolters, Jan Stulen, Robert Stehli, Romely Pfund, Ludowic Bacs, Cristian Mandeal, Horia Andreescu, Vlad Conta, Ilarion Ionescu Galati, Sergiu Comissiona and Florin Totan.
She has recorded three CDs for the Golden Sound Archives of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company. Her debut CD, recorded in cooperation with Ilian Garnet, Laureate of „Queen Elisabeth” Violin Competition in Brussels, with works by Schubert and Brahms, was awarded the „Cle d’or” and „Golden Label” Prizes (coproduction Label „Fuga Libera” and BNP Paribas Fortis).
Alina has appeared on radio and television transmissions with the NBC (USA), Radio Suisse Romande – Espace 2 and Télévision Suisse Romande (Switzerland), Eurovision, RAI and Telepace (Italy), Metro – TV (Indonesia) and TVR (Romania).
